Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stocks
While the factory A17 stock is not bad, the Length of Pull was a bit short for a full-sized adult and the short, narrow fore-arm was less than ideal when used with a front rest or sandbag. I have a Boyds laminated thumbhole stock that gave me fits for years. In a 98 Mauser action in 270 Win., it ultimately needed a pillar job. Stock crush and a lot of interference issues with the stock Argentine bottom metal. A couple reasons, for one the barrel gets significantly hotter than the action, and can cause undue stresses that differ from the action significantly when heated and expanded. For two, if you ever change your barrel you need to remove it anyway.
Of the five custom orders I’ve placed with Boyds, I’ve never had a problem. Once I ordered a standard M-1 Carbine stock set, but my commercial M-1 carbine would not accept a standard GI handguard. I’ve heard that Mosin Nagants can be problematic from a fitment standpoint, but that’s because the Soviet factories didn’t built them to tight tolerances. At times, my friends and I have had pretty fast turn-around times for custom ordered stocks , but we have also had turn-around times as long as two months or more. According to Boyds, they try to get the order shipped within two weeks or less.

I ordered the Boyds Pro-Varmint stock in a gloss finish, which brings out the colors a bit more than the standard satin finish. I also had them add 1 inch to the length of pull , and added laser stippling to the grip and forend (+$59). “Ripple” was a limited test run that Boyds did in 2015 to test the market. Basically, a “ripple” pattern is made by bending the laminate while under high heat and pressure, so that straight cuts will end up looking wavy in appearance.

I would also add that even a solid walnut stock, I will not shoot them without a proper pillar bedding. Many of you already know this, but as this is a fast growing sport, I feel that it is something good to bring up for those new to the How To Buy, Sell And Trade Aion In The Us sport or those that have never had a laminated stock. I really appreciate the fact that I can get an extra inch added to the stock, because that makes all the difference for me.
Boyds Stock Pros
It certainly wasn’t what I had envisioned; I was hoping for more of a deep red like the Boyds stocks I’ve seen on other websites. I guess its a bit of How Do Currency Exchange Rates Work a “luck of the draw” as to what you exact color will get. With that introduction, here are some of my crew’s rimfire builds that feature Boyds stocks.
- I wouldn’t even torque an aluminum chassis that tight, let alone a bare wood stock!!
- But the first thing that anyone will notice about the rifle is the damn fine looking Forest Camo Boyds stock.
- Once I ordered a standard M-1 Carbine stock set, but my commercial M-1 carbine would not accept a standard GI handguard.

It’s strong, rigid, colorful, warm, soft, hard, stiff, stainable, paintable and workable. And now with the advent Boyds Laminated Wood Stocks of space-age adhesives, it can be laminated into the strongest wood material on the planet. They’re tight where they need to be tight, loose where they need to be loose for superior performance and improved accuracy you can measure. I have no experience with them but today I ordered a classic pepper laminate for my Stevens 200 build. I do have one rifle with a TH stock and it feels very natural to the hands and makes for easy shouldering and sight acquisition. Because Boyds offers numerous models with endless variations I cannot give you an exact set of specs for all their stocks. But listed below are the specifications for my chosen stock.
